San Juan Airport Traffic Control Tower
Client: Packer Enterprises, LLC Owner: U.S. Federal Aviation Administration Description: This was a fabrication only project. As the tallest air traffic control tower in the Caribbean and Latin America, it was commissioned and is operated by the United States Federal Aviation Administration. The tower’s shaft element, composed of fluted pre-cast concrete panels that emphasize verticality through high-resolution shadows from its fins, rises as a cupped hand to support a stainless-steel-clad office-facilities module. The office-facilities module incorporates shading devices and heat-conscious, deep-set windows. It was designed by SCF Architects.
