OCPS Site 113 – Horizon High School

Client: Wharton-Smith, Inc. Owner: Orange County Public Schools Description: The new 350,000-square-foot relief high school is being constructed on a 68-acre greenfield site and includes an auditorium, gymnasium, media center, cafeteria, administration, and three multi-story classroom buildings. Site amenities include a football stadium with associated field house, track, baseball, softball and soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts, and parking and drop-off loops. The new high school will accommodate nearly 3,000 students. The project is fast-tracked to be completed in May of 2021.

St. Luke’s Lutheran Church

Client: Wharton-Smith, Inc. Owner: St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Description: This project consisted of a new 9,630-square-foot fellowship hall that includes meeting rooms, storage and a café, as well as a 13,205-square-foot gymnasium with athletic floors, bleacher seating, a full size basketball court, two practice courts, two volleyball courts, restrooms and coaches offices.

Bayside Community Church

Client: Willis Smith Construction Owner: Bayside Community Church Description: This project consisted of a 73,000 square foot addition to their existing facility in Lakewood Ranch. The congregation had outgrown the existing building which opened in 2010 and they conduct five weekly services with over 5,000 total attendees each weekend. The added facilities includes a 2,500 seat sanctuary with stadium seating, 10 additional classrooms for the children’s ministry along with a Lagoon area and a large foyer gathering area. The sanctuary not only increased capacity, but is a state of the art performing arts hall including audio-visual, lighting, catwalk/tension grid system, capacity for special event lighting and sound, and a 39 foot ceiling height to truly provide an extraordinary experience.

San Juan Airport Traffic Control Tower

Client: Packer Enterprises, LLC Owner: U.S. Federal Aviation Administration Description: This was a fabrication only project. As the tallest air traffic control tower in the Caribbean and Latin America, it was commissioned and is operated by the United States Federal Aviation Administration. The tower’s shaft element, composed of fluted pre-cast concrete panels that emphasize verticality through high-resolution shadows from its fins, rises as a cupped hand to support a stainless-steel-clad office-facilities module. The office-facilities module incorporates shading devices and heat-conscious, deep-set windows. It was designed by SCF Architects.

Palm Bay City Hall

Client: Certified General Contractors Owner: City of Palm Bay Description: The Palm Bay City Hall provides municipal services for residents of Palm Bay, FL. The building houses government offices, including the Palm Bay legislative body, and provides public records, government services, and information about Palm Bay services.

Orlando Police Department

Client: H. J. High Construction Company Owner: City of Orlando Description: The new $34 million facility is approximately 100,000 square feet and consists of a three-story tilt wall building on an eight-acre site. With over 700 sworn officers and 250 support personnel, the facility adds much needed operational and training space for the department.

KSC Launch Complex Lightning Protection Towers

Client: Steel Service Corporation Owner: Kennedy Space Center Description: We fabricated and erected two 400+ ft tall lightning protection towers at Kennedy Space Center. When lightning strikes one of these steel towers, the surge of electrical current quickly is diverted away from the rocket and is carried safely into the ground, keeping the vehicle isolated from dangerous currents.
